   I had wanted a hitbox for a while and once these came out it was time to give them a shot. Haute 42 makes great devices, they’re actually perfect if you don’t care about PS5 connectivity. My only two complaints are that getting custom buttons for these is not necessarily easy as Haute 42 uses non-standard buttons sizes, and that the button keycaps fall loose if you toss the controller in a bag. Keep in mind you own ergonomics too. This is a small controller, if you have large hands or are going to play holding this on your lap it won’t be to comfortable. I like the look of these taller buttons more than the other model, but the flatter buttons on the S model will probably be a better fit for most.

   WOW! I’m really happy with this hitbox (or whatever it’s called). I have large hands and was worried about hand cramps, since its one of the smaller hitboxes out there but that’s been no issue at all. The product itself looks clean and because it is so small its not an eyesore when its on my desk and can be easily stored. Beyond its appearance, it’s helped me get more comfortable with fighting games.

   I’ve always struggled with the genre, only finding mild success in Tekken 8 where I reached Garyu with a controller. I’ve had trouble hitting the right inputs, and it only gets worse when opponents are pressuring me and I’m not executing the move I intended. This hitbox has helped me feel more in control of my character and helped me stay more calm when playing against people. It did take some time to adjust, but the more comfortable I get with it, the easier combos become.

   I don’t own other hitboxes, but I highly recommend this one. It looks great, and for the price, it offers a lot.

   The G16 has amazing quality & is smaller than I thought (I also use a snackbox micro controller.) You can easily add your own custom art & swap out the buttons which I plan on doing. The button sounds are a lot quieter than a standard mechanical keyboard, & the Home, Back, & Start buttons on top portion of the G16 have a rubbery soft feel which I appreciate (Snack Box Micro Menu buttons have a pretty hard plastic touch to them). For the price, this a must buy for any fighting game fan attempting to make the switch to lever less. I’m primarily playing on PC & I’ll be using a brook wingman converter to play on PS5.

   How on earth is this such high quality? This thing dwarfs 3d printed hitboxes going for 200 bucks on Etsy, it’s got extremely smooth, thick and punchy gamerfinger switches and the heavy acrylic material combined with the greywood v3 switches give the inputs and incredibly satisfying thock. The weight and travel feels extremely quick while not being so light that resting your fingers will treat you to accidental inputs. RGB lighting has a fun ambience and arcade-y feel to the whole device. It’s extremely ergonomic and comfortable to crank on for hours without any pain or discomfort in the wrists or fingers, especially compared to a controller or even an arcade stick. Input switching makes this thing near universal, while SOCD cleaning modes work to keep you from registering inputs otherwise impossible in fighting games or on joystick/DPAD in general (up + down or left + right simultaneously) so it’s a tournament legal device. Size is extremely compact, especially in terms of height profile, but not so small that you can’t get away with resting it on your lap. The OLED display is the icing on the cake, it displays your current settings so you don’t have to scratch your head and lab in a practice mode to figure out whether you have SOCD cleaning on a certain mode, or turbo on a certain button — or heck even what type of controller inputs you’re sending. You can see all the settings and which inputs are registering right at your fingertips. Frickin sweet device, can’t beat this price point!!!

   Why the 4 stars? Well for me, I’m still trying to rewire my brain to press my thumb to jump. So I find myself reaching for the up button with my middle finger, which on this controller, is in an awkward position. Maybe it’s to discourage it’s usage? I don’t know, but it is kinda discouraging, and I find myself just reaching for my gamepad.

    Love that you can just plug and play with this- I actually like that it’s pretty small, I think it makes it a bit more portable. The switches that it comes with aren’t that quiet though. Since it’s hot-swap, I was able to switch them out for some Silent Alpacas which makes it very very silent. I might recommend purchasing some rubber feet since this can be a bit slippery on the desk. The screws are exposed on the bottom, so I worry about them scratching or damaging my desk mat but the rubber feet seems to solve this. All in all, a great purchase. Can’t wait to use it more! Edit: swapped out the Silent Alpacas for TTC Frozen Silents and the box stem helps to keep the buttons more secure. This little stick is super silent, and punches way above its weight class.

    I saw this model in several YouTube videos and was looking for a small/light leverless controller that I can travel with. For the money, this is an absolutely great deal. If you’re on PC, this will work right out of the box for you and you don’t need to do much other than update the firmware. If you’re buying it for a PS5, just know extra work needs to be done and the adapter is required. I highly recommend joining the Haute42 discord. There are a lot of helpful people and links to get you going. You will want to get an upgraded USB cable, as the one that comes in the box is pretty low quality. For this review. the newest update at this time is 0.7.8 which introduces an option to set a shortcut for the PS5 mode rather than using PS4 and needing to enable the Passthrough. You will still need an adapter to get this to work on a PS5. I use a Brook Wingman FGC, but I hear the Magic Boots works for this as well. I’ve modified mine with a grip tape on the bottom to keep it from slipping off my legs. If you use it on a desk, you can disregard that. I also updated the switches with Cherry MX Speed Silver with clear GamerFinger caps. There are also artists and print/cut services to get it fully customized to your liking out there as well. As of now, my main issue is the corners are a little sharp and starts to hurt my hand a bit after using it for a while. FocusAttack is a company that has stated they are working on a new beveled top piece to alleviate that. I will be looking into that when it’s available.

    I always wondered why arcade controllers seemed so expensive when they seem very straightforward to make. Well, this thing blows every other leverless arcade controller out of the water in terms of bang for the buck. While the controller base was smaller than I had expected, the build quality is very solid, and it really has everything you need. SOCD control, customizable button lighting, LED screen that displays useful information (ex. SOCD mode, input mode, button presses), easy access to switch buttons / switches. It is lightweight and compact, can easily carry this around in a small bag if needed.

    I am going to stick with haute42 going forward for leverless arcade controllers, already tempted to buy the t16 which is the bigger version.

    Excelente Hitbox por si no quieres gastar una gran cantidad, en mi caso hace rato quería una hitbox, al obtenerlo, la verdad me lleve un grata sorpresa. Se siente demasiado bien al tacto, aparte de tener una amplia variedad de configuraciones. Recomiendo demasiado este producto.
