I have zero regrets buying this game. I’ve already poured a disturbing amount of hours into it, incredibly addictive. Just the notion of watching that little train do its tailored job chuffing up and down the map is incredibly satisfying.
My only qualm is the Nintendo Switch port means the graphics could be better (I’m a Mac guy before anyone tells me the PC version of the game is better), but if you can see past this, you’re a Switch exclusive and like trains, this is absolutely your bag.

Railway Empire surprised me with its deep, addictive gameplay. The primary objective of the game is to place railroads and stations in order to build your railroad tycoon and beat your competitors. It’s like Civilization but with railroads. As the game progresses, you can upgrade technologies which further deepen the gameplay.
However, the visuals and performance are a different story. The graphics aren’t great. The textures are muddy and it doesn’t look like a game that belongs in this gaming generation. With such a low graphical output, I would expect the game to run perfect. But it struggles sometimes to maintain 30 fps.
Great gameplay with poor visuals and occasional studdering.
Railway Empire is a hard game to put down, but I can’t say that it’s worth the price of $40. Especially when you can get it much cheaper on other platforms.

Decided to try a more “in depth” game instead of the basic ones like Mario or Sonic. So far this game is pretty neat, but it is taking a bit to understand all the controls/options within the game to move forward at a decent pace; I’m sure that will improve as I learn the rules of the game. Still in the beginning phase, but a fun game to play and learn about railroad history and setup as you go. I’m probably one of the very few females who play this lol.

It’s a good game I like it but there’s NO instructions what do ever and u just have yo play with it till u figure it out. Me being the stubborn person that I am I’m still learning but getting it figured out

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of the PC version for my YT channel when it first came out. My overall thoughts when playing it on PC was that it’s not as good as Transport Fever 1or2 but still holds it’s own. I liked it. Over Xmas I bought a Switch lite and so I decided to buy it to play on the commute. Graphically it’s much simpler than the Pc version but that doesn’t really take away the overall experience. Gameplay seems to be the same too but what is a bit of a let down is that it’s doesn’t have a handheld mode. Playing on a TV the text size will be fine but on a switch lite in handheld mode it’s very very small and not a great experience. My eyes are fine but even I have to squint to read the text. This is a shame and a bit of an oversight when the rest of the game has been optimised for the platform.
Essentially if you like trains and want to play on a TV you’ll very likely enjoy but give the game a miss if you wish to play on handheld.
Overall Score 6/10
