I tried many gaming and regular mice, but very few allowed me to….
• rest my hand without my fingers pressing the buttons accidentally
• had the browser back/forward buttons in place that was comfortable, and didn’t press them accidentally
• use a resting palm to navigate, not fingertips or claw
• not spend an exorbitant amount of money
• not constantly replace batteries, or worry if a distracting power warning, or signal aberration is about to interfere with my gaming in a clutch spot.
• have a mouse wheel with a medium amount of resistance, but also offers tactile granularity (it clicks regularly, and consistently, for smooth, reliable scrolling. Not much jerking)
This contour style seems to be a throwback, and largely going out of style. This is a shame, but this thumb contour style used to dominate the market, from what I remember. I will likely buy a replacement of this same mouse as soon as my current one shows signs of wear and tear — but one year in, and it’s still wonderful.

In the mid 2000s, the OG MX518 was king. Headshots made easy. I decided to take a swipe at a the new version after using an Intellimouse 3.0 for years after my old MX was decommisioned. Its a wonderful mouse, fits my large hands very well. The buttons are tactile and feel well made. Logitech did a great job bringing back the best mouse of all time. If you are in the market for a wired gaming mouse that does on the fly DPI and is priced extremely well, look no further.

My old mouse, bless its heart, has been worn through the plastic. I used it so much, I fixed the flawed design of the cord (crooks at a 90 degree angle inside, eventually severing the connection) four times. The laser finally began showing its end of life.
Not a heavy gamer, or anything of the sort, but I use the computer for hours every day and this model withstood the test of time and endurance.

Does not need any installed software to work, it works right out of the box on Mac, Windows, and Linux (I use it for all three). No issues at all, though if you accidentally click the DPI buttons it can take a minute to get your cursor speed fixed again. Overally this is a really good mouse. I was skeptical because it seems they do not sell this model directly to the USA for some reason, so you have to buy it from a third party vendor who re-imports it from overseas (??? not sure how this works), but the mouse is legit. The only thing I do miss is the option for a free-spinning scroll wheel like in the MX500 series, but I have gotten by just fine so far without it.

The mouse came in original packaging, very clean and looks lightly used as promised! I’ve had multiple mice since the last time I had a MX518 mouse all those years ago…after getting a brand new MX510 for my Windows XP build last year..it struck me that this is the absolute best ergonomic mouse for my hand. I never knew I missed it so much, and thus I had to get the MX518 Legendary for my daily current build.
Extremely happy with it so far, and my hand rests perfectly on it. When will Logitech release a wireless mouse with this exact same shape I wonder…

I like it, along with many other Logitech items I use, but it’s not great. First, let me say I have rather small hands for a 6 ft. tall male, and sort of stubby fingers. That said, I’ll have to say I’ve had difficulty for a long time finding a mouse that works well for me. Best one I ever used was the CM Storm Xornet. LOVED it. It fit my hand perfectly. Trouble is, they don’t make it anymore. Anyway, this mouse has a long protruding butt on it that turns the mouse counterclockwise in my grip, causing the left trigger to be too far to the left than I want. Result…my pointer finger always rests on the mouse wheel, and to left click, I have to stretch my stubby pointer finger over to reach the left trigger. This may not affect many people, but I’m just giving my 2 cents here. Other than that, it has been great. Responsive, not too expensive, and the Logitech Hub software, which I personally don’t need, works well with the device.

Very good mouse, one of the best I ever owned.
You can tell it was built to last.
Very comfortable to hold and click with. It even sounds expensive.

My first “serious” gaming mouse was Logitech MX500 which had similar shape. I have tried so many other mice these last years, but returning to MX500/MX518 shape felt like arriving back home. For my palm this shape – especially the height, width and thumb groove – is ideal. I can rest my palm on it easy and also move the mouse the way I see fit – with my palm or seamlessly transition to fingertip grip whenever I feel situation demands. I slide my thumb half way back from the thumb groove, and then the groove – especially the back fringe of it – helps to support my fingertipping thumb. No other shape – their sides are too smooth! – offers that kind of versatility. Roccat Kone is kind of similar, but the thumb groove is not as pronounced and the top of it is too wide, too brick-like.
As some of us say: shape is king. By today’s standards it’s way too heavy (and the original MX500 was around 80 grams!) – I wish it was lighter, but the shape is just irresistible!
