   This case states it is for the Oled switch well it isnt. I tried to squeeze it in thinking it may be a tight fit well it wasnt it just wasn’t made for the oled period. I was opening everything I had bought for the oled because it was for my grandsons Christmas. I am now out of my money because the return window is closed. I opened 5 things that stated they were for the oled switch and NOT ONE FIT SO I AM OUT OVER 150$ because I cant send back. akiya-switch.com you need to make the return window longer than 30 days even walmart is 90 days. I wish something could be done as I am a 73yr old on social security and do not have 1 penny to throw away. I guess its my fault for not opening upon receiving it. I didnt expect everything to be so cheaply made and not fit. akiya-switch.com use to be held to a higher standard. I know now they are buying bulks of 2$ cheapest items and selling them at 35$ and ups. This is not just me I know. I have a daughter that buys a lot and she is having the same problems. Please read who the seller is before buying. akiya-switch.com is getting rich off of selling cheap china items for 20 times what they paid. Hints why they are new being sued.

   When you have big hands and you find a big game pad is like hitting the lottery. for me this gamepad is amazing, it works perfectly and after weeks playing different type of games never had a problem and the buttons are responsive like a normal controller. now I play more of the tv because having a pad with big buttons is much easier for me and no battery needed for this and no Nintendo Switch battery drain problem while using the gamepad, the gamepad it self has a type c port that you can charge it with the case. for more details check the pictures and videos I uploaded.

   I ordered the Hawksbill grip/controller for the Nintendo Switch (non LED) for review, mostly as I was interested in the concept and really wanted to try it out. The first thing I noticed right out of the box was that this controller didn’t work with the switch on it’s default settings. The very first time you attach it, there will be a message that pops up saying “device synced”… but then nothing. To use this controller/grip, you absolutely have to follow the directions in the manual. But, since it is critical, necessary for function, and enjoyment with this product, I will list my version of the steps required here in the review: 1. Power on your switch, by taping the power button for 1 second. Once the screen display shows up (with the Big Home icon) tap the screen three times to unlock. (If you have no other controllers attached) 2. Locate the “system settings” icon and tap it. (This is on the lower row of icons, and it should be the second icon from the right, it looks like a gear.) 3. Once in the System Settings menu, you must scroll down to near the bottom. Fine the words “Controllers and Sensors”. Selecting, and highlighting this option will change the options on the right side of the menu screen. 4. Locate on the right side the menu toggle for “Pro Controller Wired Communication”. This option by default is set to OFF. tap the “OFF” 5. A notice will pop up on the screen, read this notice, it’s just explains that you can’t use Amiibo with this option enabled, and you should be aware of this. Tap “OK” 6. Try pressing some buttons, the system should now respond. After getting this out of the way the rest of your time with device should be fairly straight forward. Now on with my review. I have used the Hawksbill on and off across a week of playtime, roughly 7 total hours, and personally I think there are good and bad things about this controller/grip combo. There are a large variety of games on the switch, but my sample size for games tested was only 17. All games I tested worked with this controller. First let me say that parallel analogue control sticks is fairly rare on Switch controllers. One game in particular has been fairly troublesome to play on my Switch without this controller feature, and that game was where I most loved this controller. In “Katamari Damacy: Reroll” having a good controller is very important, and the Hawksbill delivered the best experience in this game. The next thing I decided to test was the tilt function, for this I used three different games, partly because I was concerned about the results I was getting. I tested in DOOM (1995 port), QUAKE (1998 port), and then in TloZ:Breath of the Wild. I am sad to say that the tilt function is very weak, and not particularly in a good way either. I have only seen one other controller that had poor tilt as bad as the Hawksbill, so this is a miss. But if I’m being honest this isn’t much of a problem because so few games actually rely on tilt for the best experience. The face Buttons, and Direction pad (D-pad) sit very close and comfortable toward the center of the system. In my time with the Hawksbill there was no problem with this part at all. And given how critical getting a good D-pad and button layout is, there were several games that I played that focused on just this section of the controller. Now, for the bigger problems… Given the nature of the Hawksbill as a USB-C powered controller, it devours the Switch system battery. Now this battery life is already fluctuating depending on the kind of game that you play, but this is another constant system drain. From a full charge, playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, online with the Hawksbill… I had the Switch 15% battery warning pop up in just 38 minutes of play. In the second test, from a full charge the next day, I played Stardew Valley, offline, with airplane mode on, and the 15% battery warning showed up in just 67 minutes. While this is somewhat to be expected, the reality is somewhat disappointing, as this reduces the possibility of using the Hawksbill outside of your home for any extended use. NOTE: to properly charge the System through the USB-C port on the Hawksbill, you must use either the included power supply that came with your Nintendo Switch, or a proper voltage USB-C alternative. You CANNOT charge the system properly with a standard USB-C cord plugged into the Nintendo Switch Dock USB port. As this could damage your system’s long term battery life. So you will essentially need to travel with you main AC adaptor to use the Hawksbill on the go. The turbo, and Auto Turbo button features were a bit confusing on my first few times using them. But it didn’t take too long for me to get used to them. But this brings up another issue. The button layout for the special function buttons is not great. (at least for my larger then average adult fingers.) The Home and Plus buttons are very close together, and it’s easy to instead of pressing Plus, to press the Home button instead. and the same is true on the other side for the Minus button, and the Screen Capture button. The final thing that sort of bothered me, they included an auto button, but no kickstand. You can’t exactly place the Hawksbill down while the switch is running, as the air intake ports will be blocked. Overall I kind of like this controller grip, there are clearly some minor issues that prevent me from using it outside, and certain games do benefit from the controller layout, but other games do actively suffer from the design choices too. I wasn’t 100% sure, but either the way I was holding the grip, or the control layout, something was causing discomfort in my hands and fingers while using the Hawksbill. It’s not an instant discomfort and this is most likely isolated to me personally. But by the time I would get the various 15% battery left notice, I wouldn’t just plug in the System, but instead change over to my TV. The Good: + Easy to plug and play, and eject system… (once you set it up) + The analogue sticks are great for a few games that were originally designed for such a control scheme. + The D-pad, and A,B,X,Y buttons are super comfortable to use. + Easy to plug in to AC adapter while in use. The Bad: – This wired controller drains the system battery fairly quickly. – Tilt function is not good enough to use. – Small menu buttons are cramped together. The Ugly: {} One time Setup is absolutely required. {} The Hawksbill was uncomfortable at times, at least for me personally. {} Not on the road friendly. Overall: I like the Hawksbill, but there are both good and bad things about it. I can recommend this to several Switch owners. But if anything like tilt controls, battery life and amiibo support are important to you, this is not for you. I give the Hawksbill a 7.5 out of 10. Decent, but not without issues.

   So, I have seen reviews in the past that bemoan the fact that you cannot use this control aside from its intended use as being plugged directly into the Switch when it is away from the dock. While I have not found a way to use it as a wireless controller (yet?), you can use it as a wired control while the Switch is docked. All you really need is a cable with a female USBC connection to connect to the control and a male USBA connection to connect to the side of the Switch dock (sold separately). Now since most of those cables are rather short, I combined it with a USBA extension cord (which has both a male and female USBA connection, also sold separately). You can see my setup in the included picture (though the dock is not shown, the male end of the gray extension cord would plug into one of the USBA ports on the side of the dock). EXPLANATION (feel free to skip to the end): The trick is that while most wired controls communicate with the female end of a USB connection (usually via a USBC port), this control communicates via a male USBC connection (which is intended to plug directly into the female USBC port in the bottom of the Switch–the same port which connects the Switch to the dock) saving the female end for charging of the main unit only: therefore, if you try to plug the control into the dock for wired play using the usual connection (with a male USBC connection to the control and a male USBA connection on the side of the dock) you won’t get anywhere. However, if you connect the control to the dock via its male USBC connection instead, it will be able to communicate with the game just fine, hence my setup. Incidentally, this also works if you want to use the control for Steam games (connected to a USBA port via gaming PC has been tested, but I reckon it could also be plugged into the Steam Deck dock in the same way as the Switch dock). Anyway, I doubt I am the first person to figure this out, but I wanted to share it nonetheless in case anyone was interested. Otherwise, I really like the layout and feel of this control and it definitely has the potential to protect your Switch if you use it as intended and are prone to dropping things like I am. Recommended!

   This slide on controller for the Nintendo Switch fits and works MUCH better than any of the other ones I have currently. The Switch slides in really easily and stays there. There is no wobbling around or sliding out at all and none of the buttons or triggers have that “mushy” feeling you get with a lot of others. The only gripe I have is that the right thumbstick is on the top which makes it feel a little odd if you’re used to Xbox or regular switch controllers. Overall great product for the price and I’ll be getting another for my other Switch.
