Don’t let the manga style fool you into thinking this is a game that panders to just anime nerds. It panders to metal nerds as well! While the game is very pleasant to look at, actually playing it can be a bit difficult, since you essentially only have 1/3rd of a drum kit, with pre baked rhythm sequences that you swing your joycons along to, but the soundtrack is very good (if you like metal, but since you’re checking this game out, of course you do), and the game lets you play around with different beats if you want to and rewards creativity. Overall a very inspired take on the rhythm genre!

I can’t speak for the motion controls since I’m using a Switch Lite, the touch controls are very nice and responsive and the music is great. Super fun and, should be expected, a nicely comedic plot – because how many times are high school students going to defend Earth from aliens in wacky ways? Would recommend.

Aliens have come to attack earth!!!! Our only defense? Guns? Tanks? Missles? No. A high school metal band!!! This game includes several different tracks unlocked through progression with the story along with the encore dlc which will add an additional 5 more tracks. This isn’t your typical rock band or guitar hero style. It’s more simple with 3 different ways to play. You can play with the joy cons and use them like drum sticks, use the touch screen, or use button inputs. No matter what way you choose the gameplay is a loose freestyle rythm with certain patterns and combos to increase your score but it’s more about the journey. If you like anime and music you will love this!

Gal Metal isn’t a game for everyone. But It does a lot great things, from story, characters, and charm, and much more…
You can tell alot of passionate people created this game, and really loved the characters they created…
I would say more but I don’t know what more I can say…
Overall the game is good, If you like a game that feels like your reading a manga/comic most of the time, you’ll probably like this.
For me though, it just didn’t keep my attention among the sea of games on my switch.
A shame, but I do plan on returning to it someday.
(This is not a complete review, I have not finished the game, if anything I’m just a few hours in. So don’t take my word as something complete. I may return and edit this review at a later date, but for right now this is my current impression)
