   It’s been a few years since I completed this mod, and I was fairly content with the outcome. It looked really nice, except the Joystick LED PCB eventually ran into some issues. The Joystick LEDS is just a seperated flex PCB with wires connecting it to the main PCB. The way these stay in place is with a small amount of adhesion that sticks onto the actual joystick housing on the Main Power board of the Controller. After a fair amount of use, these PCBs will come loose and will rub against the plastic sticks you are using. It makes noise, and, if you don’t take care, might begin to short the PCB. This is exactly what happened to me. The sticks would randomly light up when I move the stick in a certain way, and shortly after my L and R buttons stopped working. This mod shorted my main power board (I’ve tried tearing out the mod and placing the original PCBs back in to see if the issue would resolve itself, but no luck) and now I have to fix it, which I’m pretty sure I won’t since I don’t have the skill or experience with diagnosing PCBs. A main power board will run upwards to $50 plus shipping. Wasn’t really worth the mod in the long run…

   The triggers only work when pressed hard with the mod so far ive received two replacements of the ribbon cable and pads and still had the issue great customer support horrible quality control went back to original ribbon cable feel like i over paid just for light up buttons

   As a custom controller manufacturer I was just blown away by how easily this installed, how quickly and easily a novice could do this with screwdrivers only, and how high quality the actual LEDs are. The only flaw, as others have noted, is that you’ll need to turn off the LEDs manually, they run at all times, even when the controller is off. It is a brilliant kit though, combined with extremerate’s octogate shell, I spent 50 dollars turning my pro controller into something you’d pay a modder 200+ for, easily. I love the accessability and these are the kinds of kits that will turn more of ya into modders, which is good for everyone. Just makes me happy. Really great product. Highly recommended, even if you are a novice – there is a video on youtube from the manufacturer going over every step.

   Update: it’s been over 2 years and I am just now needing to replace the ABXY membrane! Everything else is still in perfect working order and I’m an active gamer. I ordered another light kit because tracking down a clear/transparent membrane (note the old grey one in my 2nd photo) was tricky. I did eventually find them on “handheldlegend.com” and ordered 2 extra so I will now have 2 light up controllers 😂. Still in love with it!

   I love it so much! Got the white/clear it’s bright and so colorful. I installed it myself and it was very easy and I’m not a circuit board techie kind of girl. I don’t recommend using their included screw driver as it completely stripped one of my controller screws, fixing that mess is what actually took the longest. I’m still giving it 5 stars because it’s an awesome product, they provide new screws and works so well. The charge holds for about 8 straight hours of game play which is great and I charge it after every gaming sesh. So happy!

   I would love to give this a higher review, as I think the mod itself looks quite good, but there was a part of the installation video I felt a bit uneasy about and sure enough it unfortunately resulted in a damaged flex cable for the shoulder and bumper buttons. Their installation video says that the flex cable doesn’t need to be secured down, it’ll be just fine as long as it’s sitting flush, though it clearly doesn’t sit completely flush in the video or when you actually install it, and it happens to pass directly along a couple of screw holes for the outer shell. I went against my better judgment and decided to trust the process, figuring that the screw holes must somehow be a non issue, even though you can’t see how the flex cable is sitting once you’ve put the shell together enough to install the screws, and unfortunately the flex board had peeled up in the exact spot of the screw and the screw went right through the flex board. Miraculously, the buttons still function, it only seems to have severed the LED lines in the flex board, but it’s resulted in my controller not lighting up the left bumper and trigger buttons. I would strongly recommend applying a small amount of double sided tape to hold the flex cable in position where the screw holes are in the plastic, and this is really something the company themselves should address in the installation video, and include pre-attached to the flex cable, as they do already have some flex cables with adhesive attached already. Aside from the damaged cable, the LEDs look great and the button presses feel good and responsive, though the ABXY buttons themselves feel just slightly too slick in the clear version, though I wouldn’t consider it a major issue. Overall, I do think it’s a good product IF you can avoid problems, but any buyers should be EXTREMELY careful and SHOULD adhere the LR flex cable to the support structure and NOT let it just sit on top of the existing LR flex board to prevent it from being punctured by screws, as you have no way of knowing if it’s in the way of the screws by the time you need to install them, and I do think this is something Extremerate should address themselves to prevent customers having a problem. Until that’s addressed, I would feel conflicted recommending it. Edit: Adding a screenshot from their installation video, you can clearly see that the ribbon cable is not sitting flush like they say it needs to in the video, it should be sitting underneath the screw holes circled in green as the original cable sits. By the time my controller was being reassembled, the flex cable must have caught on the screw which went right through one side of it, and again this is something you CANNOT see by the time the screws are being inserted.

   First time I saw this on akiya-switch.com I immediately wanted it but thought it would be a nightmare. Then I watched their installation video on YouTube and figured I could do it even though I’m just a chill girl 💅. I’m so happy I had an open mind and tried it! It is very straightforward and you literally cannot mess it up if you follow along with the video and be patient. If you’re debating between these and the non-LED buttons, it’s almost exactly the same process; you just have a couple extra steps. I was afraid that there wouldn’t be a way to turn off the lights but they thought of everything and made it a painless experience. The lights are SO BRIGHT. My husband thinks they are too bright, but I also bought clear so I’m sure they are brighter than if you got a different color. I also purchased their white shell and replaced it while working on the buttons since you have to take everything apart anyway. I’m a happy customer. Thank you!!!

    I added these buttons to my pro controller and at the same time switched the shell. Overall took me about an hour. I had previously reshelled two joycons and that was much more difficult, even without the LEDs. If you’re new to this sort of thing I’d recommend starting with the pro controller and follow along with the YouTube tutorial. I got the white buttons rather than all clear and they look fantastic! I chose a light colored shell so you can see the lights through it a little, but I don’t mind. If that would bother you go with a darker shell. Only thing is the A is a little sticky – it’s slightly over to one side so gets caught sometimes. I am planning on taking it apart again to switch out the home + and – buttons so will see if I can adjust it then. I haven’t noticed a significant impact to battery life since installing, but I also keep my controller on a charging dock when not in use
