   It is a great alternative to the in-box Nintendo switch dock and I’m also using this on the laptop. The extra USB port is helping to charge my phone and controller. It is very easy to connect to tv. The resolution however goes down when compared to the dock.

   Transmits usb c data to larger screens well. Charges smartphones well, though have encountered two minor issues with the usb(A) charging.

   My e-reader went into a strange debug-like mode preventing me from using it, though adequately charging the device.

   This is a charger that I was skeptical off at first not because of what it claims to do but how it would do it. When you Dock the switch the screen turns off and you can’t use the joy cons that are connected to the console physically, meaning you cannot use it in handheld mode. So my intended use case was for a Special Edition Switch OLED to use as a dock for traveling and have a separate charging block for handheld mode charging.

   It has now become a replacement for both the USB C charger I had for playing handheld mode and a dock for the TV. This is because the dock only kicks in once the HDMI cable is plugged in to the TV/monitor. This means that the switch will still Charge the console and you can use it in handheld if you do not want to/can’t dock the console.

   Makes sure your USB C cable is the correct data speed, not all charging USB cables are fast with data transfers. USB 3.2 Gen 2 is what I am using. If you have a higher power device such as a laptop I would not recommend using it unless your laptop will slow charge or will not accept the charge because it is lower than what is healthy for the battery.

   I wish I’d taken the other unpaid review more seriously. The device will only output 480p from my OLED Switch. I don’t have another Switch to compare with, but I tried on a couple of TVs with a couple of HDMI cords, and the brand new Gen 2 USB C cable I purchased to do this. Half the time it wouldn’t even output to the TV. When it did, it did not recognize that it was in a Docked mode. This goes right in the box and back to akiya-switch.com. AVOID

   This thing is literally a portable Switch dock. So much easier to travel with than the original Switch dock, especially because it provides power too. So all you need with this is a USB-C to USB-C cable and an HDMI cord, and your Switch can be plugged into TVs on the go without lugging the dock and OEM power supply around. I’m very happy with it and relieved to find a good 3rd party dock from a reputable brand. UPDATE: I tried this with my new Switch OLED and it appears to be putting out a low resolution image at 480p. I’ve tried multiple TVs with the same result. So it works, but you don’t get the same image quality as with the OEM dock and it’s noticable on larger TVs.

   Generally speaking, I would not plug my $350 Switch OLED into a 3rd party dock. So many people have fried the charging chip inside the console because of either using cheap docks from no name brands, plus the fact that the Switch uses an unique 15V/2.6A Power Delivery profile when in docked mode. But since this product is engineered by Belkin and it’s designed with the Switch in mind, I feel safe using it and recommending it. You get a 45w USB C port that also transmits video to the HDMI 1.4 port on the bottom. You also have a USB A port that supports data and charging at 1.5A. The HDMI port does support 4k, but only at 30Hz. I was able to use the Nintendo Switch with the mClassic HDMI upscaler, to output a 2560x1440p signal to my TV. I used the middle USB port to supply power to the mClassic. I think this is probably the best travel dock you can get for the Switch, this thing is about 1/8th the size of the official dock from Nintendo. You do lose out on a LAN port and a second USB port (Or two USB ports if you have the Non-OLED Switch dock), but you gain the portability. This will also work perfectly for simply charging your Switch when in handheld mode, although I wouldn’t recommend spending $60 just for that. One thing I have to mention, when the Switch is in portable mode, it’s CPU/GPU/RAM run at a lower frequency than when in docked mode, with performance being cut in half almost. The real question (and the one that I can’t answer), is if the Switch sees this hub as being the same as the official dock, allowing you to get the full resolution and performance you would when using the Nintendo dock. If I had to guess, I would assume that it probably does, but can’t say for sure because there’s not an easy way to test for that. So, be aware that you might be getting lower resolution rendering than you would in normal docked gameplay. Update: I’ve noticed that with some types of screens, specifically portable monitors, this hub will output 480p from the Switch for no apparent reason (and without the ability to go up to 720p or 1080p). With my 4k Vizio, this outputs a normal 1080p resolution from the Switch and also can do 1440p when using the mClassic. Whatever is causing it, it’s not the USB C or HDMI cable I was using and it’s not the Belkin hub either. It’s something that is “confusing” the Switch when using this hub with a portable monitor. Just wanted to mention that since some people do like to play on those type of monitors.

   I love how compact it is and how it easily fits into my 6L peak design everyday sling. Fair warning, though this does not compatible with any thunderbolt cable type 3/4. For best results use USB-C 3.1 or better. This info is also clearly stated in the user manual as well. Truthfully, this was a very slept on product and a great alternative for the genki switch dock.

   I just recently took a trip with some friends and we had two Nintendo Switches with us. We ended up needing to share their chargers and we didn’t have a way to hook the gaming systems up to the TV in our condo since we left their docks at home. This charging hub would have been the perfect travel companion for that trip. I’ve trusted Belkin for a number of years and I love their products. This adapter makes connecting the Switch to power and TV much easier than hauling the dock with you everywhere. It’s small and it can easily stow away with the Switch in a carrying case. The price tag seems high, but when you consider that it’s replacing a much larger dock that is nearly three times as much as this adapter, I think this is well worth the investment.

    Like others I was disappointed that this device inexplicably only outputs 480p when used with an OLED Switch but supposedly works as expected with other Switch models. I have no idea what the issue could be, considering you can easily use an OLED Switch with a regular (non-OLED) Switch dock and vice versa. An unfortunate waste of time and money.
