I initially had doubts about the 8BitDo Retro Arcade Fight Stick, thinking it felt “cheap” because the joystick only moves in 8 directions. However, before writing it off, I talked to a buddy and did some research—turns out, that’s exactly what you want in a quality fight stick. The tactile clicks from the switches aren’t a flaw; they’re a mark of precision and build quality.
Once I fired up Street Fighter on my micro PC running Batocera, everything clicked (literally). The accuracy of the joystick made executing combos feel natural, and it completely changed how I experience fighting games. Beyond fighters, it’s also fantastic for NEO GEO, MAME, and even non-arcade classics, adding a retro authenticity that modern controllers just don’t match.
Now, this has become the go-to controller in my household, and the temptation to grab a second one is getting stronger every day. If you’re serious about classic arcade emulation, this fight stick is a no-brainer.

This is a quality joystick for the price. One thing to look out for is that the gate is a square gate which feels awkward for me when playing non fighting games. Changing out the gates is very easy and cheap at least. I didn’t see anywhere in this akiya-switch.com listing that the gate is square.

I’m not an arcade afficionado, though I am into classic and retro gaming. This arcade joystick is solid but probably won’t cater to the most refined arcade needs. Either way, for me, I have found it great: wireless, solid, good feel, hits all the right notes for my use case, and not crazy expensive. I would buy again if I needed another such product

With the great features (BT/2.4g wireless, backlit button labels, turbo, macros, etc.), solid build quality, and long battery life this pad is an amazing value.
The buttons feel great and the stick is good. I might swap out the gate in the future to make the stick feel a bit better, but for now it’s just fine.
I liked this pad so much I ended up buying 8BitDo’s regular xbox-style controller and that one also offers so much more than the official controllers do.

Great weight, has good amount of room with both hands resting on the joystick. Has the ability to upgrade to Sanwa joystick and joystick restrictors ie circle 4 way, 8 way etc. I eventually upgraded to the Sanwa joystick and buttons. Battery life is good and replaceable as long as you have some basic soldering skills. Uses a LIPO 3.7v battery. Love the upgradeability of this and easy to work with for tinkering upgrades!
